Day 5: Attempt Brake Repair on Jons Bike, then Ride

Update on the "brake failure" warning light on Jon's RT bike.

Last night after we finally found a hotel and got checked in, we went looking for dinner.  Walking distance to the hotel were: Olive Garden, Outback, Texas Steakhouse.  No way we were going to eat at any of those after a long day of riding.  We found the nearest grocery store about 3/4 of a mile away and rode 2-up on the RT.  Rachel heard a dragging sound from the rear brake.  Turns out the rear pads had worn down to steel and were totally gone.

My first plan was to keep riding to Maine and then get pads FedEx'd to the cabin there and change them myself. This morning when I woke up, about an hour before Rachel (!) I came up with a better plan.  Rather than ride 700 miles with no rear brake, we are going to hang out in State College until 9.  At which time the local BMW Motorrad (German for 'motorcycle') dealer opens.  Hopefully they can see us without an appointment and change the pads to new ones.

We are planning on riding 437 miles today, so it is going. To be a very long day with a late start.  But, we think working. Brakes will be worth it.
